Stevens Pass, Washington – Drivers crossing the Cascade passes could encounter snow-covered highways late tonight as up to 10 inches of snow falls between 10 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect overnight for the Cascades of Whatcom and Skagit counties, along with the Cascades of Snohomish and northern King counties. Snow totals between 5 and 10 inches are expected, including at Mount Baker and Stevens Pass.
Snow will intensify overnight, leading to difficult travel conditions by early Monday morning. U.S. 2 over Stevens Pass and State Route 542 near Mount Baker could become snow-packed, especially during heavier bursts before daybreak. Reduced visibility and slick pavement may slow the Monday morning commute for travelers heading west toward Everett and Seattle.
Officials urge drivers to slow down and carry traction devices as required. Prepare for possible isolated power outages in higher elevations where snow accumulates on tree limbs.
Snowfall is expected to taper late Monday morning, but road conditions may remain icy into midday as crews work to clear the passes.
