Grundy, VA – Snow continues to coat roads across far Southwest Virginia, with another 2 to 4 inches expected before 1 a.m. Tuesday, setting up slick travel for both Monday commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Buchanan and Dickenson counties until 1 a.m. Tuesday. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, occasionally blowing snow across roadways and reducing visibility in open areas.

Communities including Grundy, Vansant, Hurley and Clintwood will likely see snow-covered secondary roads and untreated bridges. Higher terrain near Breaks Interstate Park and along Route 460 could become especially slick during heavier bursts of snowfall. Even light additional accumulation can create black ice where temperatures hover near freezing.

Drivers should allow extra travel time Monday morning and again Monday evening as temperatures drop and refreeze becomes possible. Keep headlights on in falling snow and maintain extra distance between vehicles. Check 511 or your state’s online roadway portal for updated conditions before heading out.

Snow showers may taper late Monday night, but slick spots could persist into early Tuesday. Additional updates are possible if bands redevelop.
