Siskiyou County, CA – Drivers crossing mountain passes above 4,500 feet in Siskiyou County face snow-covered roads and wind gusts up to 60 mph through 4 p.m. Sunday, creating immediate travel hazards on key routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for western, south central, north central and southeast Siskiyou County. Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of snow in higher elevations, with the strongest winds targeting exposed ridgelines and summits.
Impacts are most significant near Dead Horse Summit on Highway 89 at 4,489 feet, Etna Summit along Sawyers Bar Road at 5,950 feet, and the Mt. Shasta Ski Park Highway near 5,400 feet. Grass Lake near Mt. Hebron and Bunny Flat on Everitt Memorial Highway at 6,900 feet will also see accumulating snow and reduced visibility. Bray and Tennant sit within the advisory zone.
Blowing snow may cut visibility below a half mile at times, and strong gusts could down tree limbs or create isolated power disruptions. Drivers should slow down, carry tire chains and check conditions through Caltrans QuickMap or by calling 511 before heading into higher terrain.
The advisory expires at 4 p.m. Sunday, but additional updates could follow if snowfall lingers into the evening.
