Michigan wakes up to a gray, misty skyline as light snow drifts across Detroit and the surrounding suburbs. Headlights glow through fog, and a thin coating of snow clings to rooftops and grassy areas. Temperatures hover near 28 degrees, cold enough for slick spots to develop quickly.
A Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac advises cautious travel this morning. Light snow will persist through the day, adding up to a half inch in some locations. Broader totals across southeast Michigan may range from a half inch to 2 inches, with isolated 3-inch pockets possible.
Roads, especially bridges, exit ramps and overpasses along I-94, I-75 and I-96, could turn slippery. Visibility is not expected to drop significantly, but snow-covered pavement will slow traffic. Allow extra stopping distance and reduce speed.
Snow showers continue into tonight before tapering. Lows fall into the mid-20s, setting the stage for refreezing. This is prime time for flash freezing, when melted snow hardens into icy patches before dawn.
Monday stays mostly cloudy with a high near 29. Monday night drops sharply to around 15 degrees. Tuesday, February 24th brings mostly cloudy skies with a chance of snow developing late. Widespread accumulating snow is possible Tuesday into Tuesday night, with several inches hinted for parts of southeast Michigan.
Midweek moderates slightly. Wednesday reaches near 39 with mostly cloudy skies. Late week trends milder, and temperatures climb toward the 40s by Friday and possibly mid-40s next weekend.

Tuesday: Chance of snow, high 33.
