White Plains, New York – Travel across northern Westchester, Rockland County and much of northern Connecticut could become nearly impossible by late Sunday afternoon as blizzard conditions take hold with up to 20 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching 55 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday for Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex and Northern New London counties in Connecticut, along with Rockland and Northern Westchester counties in New York. The heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected Sunday night into Monday.

Forecasters call for 16 to 20 inches of accumulation, with snowfall rates intensifying overnight. Winds gusting up to 55 mph will create widespread blowing snow and visibility below a quarter mile, producing prolonged whiteout conditions along I-95, I-684, the Merritt Parkway and the New York State Thruway.

Heavy snow combined with strong winds could down tree limbs and power lines, raising the risk of sporadic outages in Stamford, Danbury, White Plains and New City. The Monday morning and evening commutes face severe disruption.

Officials urge residents to avoid all non-emergency travel and prepare for possible power interruptions. Blizzard conditions will persist through Monday afternoon before easing after 6 p.m., though drifting snow may linger into Monday night.
