Davis, W.Va. – Visibility could drop below a quarter mile within minutes Sunday night as heavy snow and 45 mph wind gusts sweep across the higher terrain of Eastern Tucker County through 1 a.m. Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Eastern Tucker County, including Canaan Valley, Thomas and Davis, until 1 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. Total snow accumulations will range from 9 to 15 inches, with locally higher totals possible along the highest ridges. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph Sunday night into Monday, creating blowing and drifting snow.

Near blizzard conditions are possible late Sunday through Monday as falling and wind-driven snow reduces visibility below one-quarter mile at times. Travel along Route 32 through Canaan Valley, Route 219 and Route 93 may become very difficult to impossible, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Gusty winds could snap tree branches and lead to isolated power outages. Emergency officials urge residents to delay travel. If you must drive, leave extra space between vehicles, avoid sudden braking and use caution on hills and curves. Make sure your vehicle is winter-ready and stocked with blankets, food, water and a flashlight.

Snow and blowing snow will gradually ease late Monday night, but icy roads may linger into early Tuesday. Warnings remain in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday, and additional advisories could follow if bands redevelop.
