Snowshoe, West Virginia – Strong mountain winds will ramp up by 7 p.m. Sunday, with gusts reaching 50 mph that could knock down tree limbs and disrupt power through 10 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph counties, including Snowshoe and Harman. Northwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph Sunday evening, with peak gusts up to 50 mph along exposed ridges and higher elevations.

Travel along Route 219 and other mountain roads may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Sudden gusts could impact drivers near Snowshoe Mountain Resort and across open terrain where winds accelerate. Loose outdoor equipment, signage and construction materials may be blown around overnight.

Residents should secure outdoor items before sunset and prepare for isolated power outages. Charge electronic devices and have flashlights ready in case tree damage interrupts service.

Winds are expected to remain elevated through Monday evening before gradually diminishing after 10 p.m. Additional advisories could be issued if gusts trend higher along the ridgelines.
