Portland, Maine – Roads across southern and central Maine and much of New Hampshire could turn snow-covered within hours as a winter storm pushes in by 7 p.m. Sunday, bringing up to 14 inches of snow and wind gusts near 45 mph through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for much of southwest Maine, including York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox and Lincoln counties, as well as central and southern New Hampshire. Snow will overspread the region this evening, intensify overnight and continue through Monday evening before tapering.

Southern Maine communities from Portland and Westbrook to Biddeford and Sanford could see 7 to 14 inches by 10 p.m. Monday. Midcoast towns including Rockland, Camden and Belfast are expected to receive 6 to 10 inches between 1 a.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday. Concord, Manchester and Laconia may pick up 5 to 9 inches, with localized heavier snow bands producing rapid accumulation and visibility below a half mile.

Gusts up to 40 to 45 mph will create blowing snow along I-95, I-295 and I-93, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. While the overall power outage threat remains limited, wind-driven snow could snap small branches and toss unsecured objects.

Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel, check conditions at newengland511.org and keep emergency supplies in vehicles. Warnings remain in effect through late Monday night, and additional advisories could follow if snow bands linger.
