Charleston, West Virginia – Snow will continue to accumulate across far southwest Virginia through Monday night, creating slick roads and travel concerns before both Monday commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Buchanan and Dickenson counties. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches are expected, with periods of steady snowfall at times through Monday.

Communities including Grundy, Clintwood, Vansant and areas near Breaks Interstate Park may see snow-covered secondary roads and mountain routes. Higher elevations and shaded valleys are most likely to hold onto accumulation, especially overnight when temperatures remain below freezing.

The advisory highlights potential impacts to both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Routes such as U.S. 460 and State Route 83 could become slick, particularly on curves, bridges and untreated surfaces.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra stopping distance and check Virginia 511 or state roadway portals for real-time conditions before traveling. Snow showers gradually taper late Monday night, but patchy slick spots may linger into early Tuesday as cold air remains in place.
