Baltimore, Maryland – Snow will begin coating the higher elevations of Highland County and eastern Pendleton County by 4 a.m. Sunday, creating slick mountain roads through the evening hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday for eastern Highland County in Virginia and eastern Pendleton County in West Virginia. Areas above 2,000 feet could receive 2 to 4 inches of snow, while lower valleys see a coating to 2 inches. Wind gusts up to 35 mph may produce areas of blowing snow along exposed ridges.

Communities including Monterey and Franklin could see snow-covered stretches on routes such as U.S. 220 and U.S. 33, especially in higher terrain. Visibility may drop briefly during heavier bursts, and untreated secondary roads could become slick quickly.

Drivers should reduce speed and check 511 road reports before traveling through the Allegheny Highlands. Snow tapers later this evening, but patchy slick spots may persist after sunset as temperatures fall. Additional updates are possible if snowfall totals increase.
