Grand Rapids, Michigan – Lake effect snow bands will continue to sweep across Mason and Oceana counties through 1 p.m. Monday, dropping up to 4 inches and blowing snow across key highways before the morning commute ends.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until early Monday afternoon. An additional 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected in Ludington, Hart and surrounding communities. Wind gusts up to 35 mph could create blowing and drifting snow, especially near the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Drivers along US-31, US-10 and M-116 may encounter sudden drops in visibility as narrow snow bands shift inland. Conditions can change within a few miles, with heavier bursts reducing visibility below a half mile while nearby areas see lighter snow. Bridges and open stretches of roadway are most vulnerable to drifting.

The advisory stretches through the Monday morning commute, when slick pavement and gusty winds may slow traffic. Motorists should reduce speed, increase following distance and prepare for rapid changes in road conditions.

Snow showers gradually diminish by early Monday afternoon, but patchy blowing snow could linger until winds ease. Additional advisories may be issued if bands intensify overnight.
