Jackson, Kentucky – Snow will begin sticking to roads in Bell and Leslie counties by midday Sunday, setting up slick travel before the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. Sunday until 6 p.m. Monday. Forecasters expect up to 2 inches of accumulation across Pineville, Middlesboro and Hyden. Wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph could accompany heavier snow showers, briefly reducing visibility and blowing snow across untreated roads.
In Bell County, drivers along U.S. 25E and Kentucky 66 may encounter slushy stretches by late afternoon. Leslie County roads, especially secondary and rural routes near Hyden, could turn slick as temperatures hover near freezing. Periods of heavier snow Sunday afternoon and again Monday may create sudden drops in visibility during daylight hours.
The advisory covers both the Monday morning and evening commutes, when refreezing and lingering snow showers may impact travel. Motorists should slow down, increase following distance and check live road conditions through Kentucky Transportation Cabinet resources before heading out.
Snow tapers by early Monday evening, but slick spots may linger after sunset as temperatures fall back toward freezing. Additional updates will be issued if snowfall rates increase.
