Cle Elum, Washington – Drivers along the eastern slopes of the Cascades could encounter slick stretches of highway through 10 p.m. Saturday as light snow continues to fall across central Washington’s higher terrain.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 p.m. for the Upper and Lower Slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest, including communities such as Cle Elum, Easton, Roslyn, Cliffdell and Appleton. The Simcoe Highlands, including Goldendale and Bickleton, are also under the advisory. Additional snow accumulations up to 1 inch are expected.

Even minor snowfall can create hazardous driving conditions, especially on untreated roadways and higher elevation routes. Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass and U.S. 97 through the Cascades may see slick spots as temperatures hover near freezing. Secondary roads and shaded areas are most likely to ice over this evening.

Motorists should reduce speed, increase following distance and check Washington State Department of Transportation updates at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before heading out.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after 10 p.m., though patchy ice may linger overnight in colder mountain valleys.
