Everett, Washington – Drivers crossing Stevens Pass or heading toward Mount Baker could face snow-covered highways by 10 p.m. Sunday as up to 10 inches of accumulation blankets the Cascades before the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday for the Cascades of Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish and northern King counties. Snow totals between 5 and 10 inches are expected, with the heaviest amounts likely at higher elevations including Stevens Pass and Mount Baker.

Snow will intensify overnight, quickly covering U.S. Highway 2 near Stevens Pass and State Route 542 approaching Mount Baker. Reduced visibility and compact snow could make travel slow and hazardous, particularly for early Monday commuters and commercial traffic moving through mountain corridors.

The combination of steady snowfall and cold temperatures may also weigh down tree branches, leading to isolated power outages in higher terrain communities.

Drivers should delay non-essential travel, carry tire chains and allow extra stopping distance. Check Washington State Department of Transportation updates before departure.

Conditions are expected to improve after 10 a.m. Monday, but additional advisories could follow if snowfall rates increase overnight.
