Bangor, ME – Snow and wind could combine to drop visibility below a quarter mile by Monday morning, threatening dangerous travel across much of Maine and parts of New Hampshire before commuters head out.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday morning through late Monday night for southern Penobscot, interior and coastal Hancock, and Washington counties. More than 6 inches of snow is possible, with the highest totals expected across Downeast Maine, including Bar Harbor, Machias and Eastport. Wind gusts up to 45 mph could produce blowing snow and whiteout conditions.

Farther south, the National Weather Service in Gray has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday evening through late Monday night for southwest Maine and central and southern New Hampshire, including Portland, Sanford, Portsmouth, Manchester and Nashua. Additional watches extend from late Sunday night through Tuesday morning for Waldo, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties, where 6 inches or more of accumulation is possible.

Interstate 95 from Bangor to Portland, along with coastal Route 1, could become snow-covered quickly as heavier bands move in. Gusty winds may snap small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects, though widespread outages are not expected at this time.

Residents should delay non-essential travel and monitor updates as snowfall timing and totals become clearer through Monday night.
