Salisbury, MD – Snow could begin sticking to bridges and overpasses by midmorning Sunday, with up to 9 inches possible across parts of the Maryland Eastern Shore before the Monday commute begins.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening for portions of eastern and southeast Virginia and much of Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore. Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, Inland Worcester and Maryland Beaches could see 6 to 9 inches of snow, with wind gusts up to 45 mph. Farther south across Accomack and Northampton counties in Virginia, 3 to 6 inches are possible. Inland sections of eastern Virginia, including Westmoreland, Gloucester and York counties, may see 2 to 5 inches with gusts near 35 mph.

Snow and strengthening winds could create whiteout conditions along U.S. Route 50 near Salisbury and Ocean City, as well as along Route 13 through Accomack County. Gusty winds may bring down tree branches and reduce visibility in open areas.

Travel impacts are likely during both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Residents should prepare for slick secondary roads, secure loose outdoor items and charge devices in case of isolated outages.

The watch continues through Monday evening, and warnings may be issued as snowfall totals and wind impacts become more certain.
