Medford, Oregon – Drivers along Highway 101 from Cape Blanco south to Gold Beach could face dangerous crosswinds and falling debris within the next several hours as powerful coastal gusts intensify overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a High Wind Warning remains in effect for the South Central Oregon Coast and Curry County Coast until 10 a.m. Sunday. South winds will hold between 30 and 40 mph, with peak gusts reaching 65 mph, especially across exposed headlands and open stretches of Highway 101.

Communities including Ophir, Nesika Beach, Pistol River, Harbor, Port Orford and Gold Beach sit in the core impact zone. Forecasters expect the strongest winds during frontal passage late tonight, when sudden gusts could snap tree limbs, scatter unsecured objects and trigger isolated power outages.

High-profile vehicles such as semis and RVs may struggle to maintain control on north-south routes. Coastal residents should secure outdoor furniture, trash bins and construction materials before winds ramp up further.

Winds gradually ease after sunrise Sunday, but hazardous travel conditions may linger through midmorning. Additional statements could be issued if peak gusts exceed projections overnight.
