New York, NY – Blizzard conditions and heavy snowfall will impact the New York City region Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, disrupting travel across major roadways and coastal communities.

According to the National Weather Service New York, Blizzard Warnings are in effect for Long Island, New York City, and southern Connecticut, while Winter Storm Warnings cover interior southern Connecticut, the Lower Hudson Valley, southern Westchester County, and northeastern New Jersey.

Forecasters expect widespread snowfall totals between 10 and 24 inches, with the highest amounts along Long Island and coastal Connecticut. Snowfall rates may reach 1 to 2 inches per hour Sunday afternoon and evening, producing near whiteout conditions at times. Wind gusts between 45 and 55 mph could create blowing and drifting snow, especially along Interstate 95, the Long Island Expressway, the Garden State Parkway, and the Merritt Parkway.

The heaviest snow is expected from late Sunday morning through early Monday, with peak intensity between 7 p.m. Sunday and midnight. Conditions may gradually improve Monday afternoon as winds decrease.

Minor to moderate coastal flooding is possible during high tide Sunday night into early Monday, particularly along vulnerable shorelines of Long Island and coastal Connecticut. Gale to storm-force conditions are also expected on regional waters.

Officials warn that travel could become dangerous or impossible during peak snowfall. Commuters, delivery drivers, and students should prepare for delays or cancellations Monday morning.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm.
