Paducah, KY – Wind chills are expected to drop into the single digits early Monday morning across western Kentucky, southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana, impacting travel along Interstate 24 and Interstate 55.

According to the US National Weather Service in Paducah, most of the region will experience wind chill values in the single digits above zero by early Monday. Some locations in northwest portions of the Quad State — including areas near Carbondale, Illinois, and Marble Hill, Missouri — could see readings near zero.

Temperatures are forecast to bottom out around 15 degrees below normal Monday morning. Overnight lows will combine with light winds to produce wind chill readings between roughly 5 and 12 degrees across much of the region.

The coldest conditions are expected north and west of Paducah, particularly along and north of Interstate 24 in Kentucky and Interstate 55 in southeast Missouri.

While no widespread precipitation is expected with this cold surge, the bitter wind chills may affect early commuters, school transportation, and outdoor workers. Prolonged exposure to single-digit wind chills can increase the risk of frostbite on exposed skin.

Residents are encouraged to bundle up, wear layers, and limit time outdoors Monday morning.

Southwest winds return Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rebound closer to seasonal norms by midweek. The next chance of rain is forecast Wednesday night into Thursday, when more than a quarter inch of rainfall is possible in parts of the region.

Officials advise monitoring updated forecasts for any additional cold weather statements.
