South Bend, IN – Lake effect and system snow could bring 2 to 4 inches near Lake Michigan Sunday into Monday, creating slick travel along I-94, US-31, and US-20.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, dry conditions will continue through today before snow chances increase after midnight. The greatest accumulation potential is expected Sunday into Monday, particularly in counties closest to Lake Michigan.
Forecasters say around 1 to 2 inches of snow is possible tonight near Lake Michigan, with little accumulation elsewhere. By Sunday into Monday, snowfall totals may reach 2 to 4 inches near the lakeshore, while inland areas — including Fort Wayne and locations along Interstate 69 — could see around 1 to 2 inches.
High temperatures today are expected in the mid-30s, with lows tonight dropping into the teens and 20s. Snowfall probabilities increase significantly Sunday, especially in northwest Indiana.
Roads near Lake Michigan, including stretches of I-94 between Michigan City and the Michigan state line, may become snow-covered at times. Reduced visibility is possible in heavier lake effect bands.
While snowfall amounts are not expected to be extreme, bursts of snow could impact the Monday morning commute.
Drivers, delivery workers, and early-shift employees should monitor changing conditions, particularly in lake-adjacent communities where localized heavier totals are possible.
Snow showers are forecast to taper later Monday.
Residents are encouraged to check for forecast updates and allow extra travel time where snow accumulates.
