Duluth, MN – Lake effect snow is expected to bring up to 3 inches along parts of the South Shore tonight into early Monday, potentially creating slick travel conditions along Interstate 35 and Highway 61.

According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, light to moderate snowfall will develop this evening and continue overnight before tapering off by Monday morning. Snow is expected to be light and fluffy, particularly compared to earlier systems this week.

Forecast totals vary across the region. Areas near Ashland and Hurley, Wisconsin, could see between 3 and 6 inches, with localized higher amounts possible in persistent lake effect bands. Duluth and Two Harbors may receive lighter accumulations, generally between 1 and 3 inches.

Roadways including I-35 near Duluth, US-2 along the South Shore, US-51 near Hurley, and MN-61 could become snow-covered late tonight into Sunday morning. Reduced visibility may occur in heavier bursts of snow.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, a clipper system moving south from Manitoba is forecast to bring additional light snowfall across northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin. Snowfall totals with that system are expected to be lighter than recent storms, though areas north of US-2 may have a greater chance of seeing more than 2 inches.

Drivers traveling overnight or early Sunday should allow extra time and watch for untreated road surfaces.

Early-shift workers and weekend travelers along the South Shore may encounter slower travel conditions before snow tapers Monday morning.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates for the latest snowfall projections.
