Birmingham, AL – Gusty northwest winds up to 30 mph and cooler temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s are expected Sunday across central Alabama, potentially impacting travel along Interstate 65 and Interstate 20.

According to the US National Weather Service in Birmingham, rain chances will decrease through Saturday evening before skies gradually clear overnight. Low temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 30s in northwest Alabama, including Hamilton, with mid to upper 30s near Birmingham and Tuscaloosa. Southeast areas such as Montgomery and Troy may remain in the low 40s.

By Sunday, clear skies will develop regionwide. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid 40s in northwest counties and the low to mid 50s in southeast Alabama. Birmingham is forecast to reach around 49 degrees, while Montgomery and Troy could see highs near 54 degrees.

Northwest winds will range from 15 to 20 mph Sunday, with gusts up to 30 mph at times. Windier conditions may be noticeable along elevated roadways and open stretches of I-65, I-59, and I-20, particularly during the afternoon.

Earlier Saturday, showers and isolated thunderstorms brought warmer conditions, with highs ranging from the mid 60s northwest to the upper 70s southeast before the cold front passed.

Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, may experience crosswinds on north-south highways Sunday afternoon.
