Albany, NY – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect Sunday through Monday, with up to 12 inches or more of snow possible south and east of Albany, potentially impacting Interstate 87 and Interstate 90 travel corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service in Albany, a nor’easter is expected to develop off the mid-Atlantic coast Sunday and track northeast through Monday. The storm may rapidly intensify, increasing the potential for heavy snowfall across portions of eastern New York and western New England.

Forecasters indicate the highest snowfall totals are likely in areas south and east of Albany, including the mid-Hudson Valley and northwestern Connecticut. Some locations in the Hudson Valley could see accumulations exceeding 7 inches, with localized totals approaching or surpassing 12 inches depending on the storm track.

Communities along Interstate 87 from Albany to Kingston and along Interstate 84 near Poughkeepsie may experience snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. US-7 in western Massachusetts and Vermont could also see hazardous travel conditions, especially Sunday night into Monday.

There remains some uncertainty regarding how far inland heavier snow bands will reach, which could affect final totals in the Capital Region.

Impacts may include low visibility in snow, slippery roads, and areas of blowing and drifting snow as winds increase along and east of the Hudson River.

Commuters, college students, and state workers across the region may face delays during the Monday morning commute if snowfall rates intensify overnight.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and check road conditions before traveling.
