New York, NY – A strong nor’easter is expected to bring up to 18 inches of snow and whiteout conditions Sunday into Monday, prompting Blizzard Warnings along coastal areas and major travel corridors.

According to the US National Weather Service New York NY, Winter Storm Watches have been upgraded to Blizzard Warnings along the coast, including New York City, Long Island, and parts of southern Connecticut. Inland areas remain under Winter Storm Warnings.

Forecasters project widespread snowfall totals between 12 and 18 inches regionwide, with the highest accumulations expected along the coast. Areas under Blizzard Warnings could see sustained winds over 35 mph with gusts reaching up to 55 mph. Visibility may drop below one-quarter mile in heavy blowing snow for three hours or longer.

The alert includes major roadways such as Interstate 95, the Long Island Expressway, the Garden State Parkway, and local parkways serving coastal communities. Travel may become dangerous or impossible at times Sunday afternoon through early Monday.

Officials warn that falling snow is not required for blizzard conditions, as strong winds can lift previously fallen snow and create ground blizzard conditions.

Residents are urged to monitor updates as the full briefing is expected later this morning.

Commuters, students, and early-shift workers across the region could face significant disruptions if conditions deteriorate as forecast.
