According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow showers increase after 1 a.m. with a 50 percent chance tonight. Highs reach near 35 degrees today before dropping to around 29 degrees. On Sunday, snow showers become likely with a 90 percent chance and highs near 34 degrees. New accumulation remains light, but steady bursts may briefly reduce visibility.
Lake-effect snow redevelops near and west of US-131 late Sunday night into Monday morning. Drivers along I-96 and I-196 should prepare for slushy stretches and quick coatings on ramps and bridges. Northwest winds could gust up to 28 mph Sunday, creating pockets of blowing snow.
Monday turns colder with highs near 29 degrees and a slight snow shower chance. Any melting during daylight hours may refreeze after sunset as temperatures fall into the teens Monday night. Flash freezing could create black ice for early Tuesday travelers.
Snow showers become likely again Tuesday with a 60 percent chance and highs near 32 degrees. By Wednesday, temperatures climb toward 40 degrees with a rain-snow mix possible.
Longer-range signals point to a warming trend late next week, with highs pushing into the 40s and hints of early spring warmth settling into southwest Lower Michigan.
