Wisconsin’s lakefront air feels sharp and dry this morning, but clouds are already lining up west of Milwaukee as light snow edges toward southeast communities. Pavement looks quiet now, yet a quick coating could change that by late day.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, there is a 30 percent chance of snow today and again Sunday, with highs near 35 degrees today and 31 degrees Sunday. Northwest winds increase to 20 mph Sunday, with gusts up to 25 mph, creating blowing snow in open areas.
Light accumulations are expected, generally under an inch, but even a dusting can turn bridges slick. Drivers along I-94, I-43 and Highway 41 should prepare for brief visibility drops in passing snow showers. Plan extra stopping distance, especially late today and again Sunday afternoon.
Temperatures fall to 24 degrees tonight and near 18 degrees Sunday night. That sets up a flash-freeze risk. Any melting during daylight hours may refreeze quickly after sunset, leaving icy patches on sidewalks and untreated side streets by early Monday.
Monday stays mostly sunny but cold, with highs near 27 degrees and gusty north winds. Another 40 percent snow chance arrives Tuesday with highs near 37 degrees before a rain-snow mix develops Wednesday as temperatures rise to 41 degrees.
By late week, highs climb into the mid-40s and even upper 40s by Friday. Longer-range signals favor above-normal temperatures into early March, offering a taste of early spring warmth across southeast Wisconsin.
