Atlantic City, New Jersey – Travel across coastal New Jersey could become impossible by 1 p.m. Sunday as blizzard conditions slam Atlantic and Cape May counties with up to 18 inches of snow and wind gusts reaching 55 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday for Atlantic, Cape May, Coastal Atlantic and Atlantic Coastal Cape May counties. Snowfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour Sunday afternoon and evening, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile in blowing snow.
The heaviest impacts will stretch from Hammonton to Atlantic City and Ocean City, with whiteout conditions likely along the Garden State Parkway, Atlantic City Expressway and Route 47. NJDOT crews are preparing for rapid accumulation and significant drifting, especially on bridges and exposed roadways.
Wind gusts near 55 mph could snap tree limbs and trigger scattered power outages along the barrier islands. Emergency managers urge residents to avoid non-essential travel and keep vehicles stocked with blankets, food and charged phones. If stranded, remain inside your vehicle and call 511 for updated road conditions.
Conditions will deteriorate quickly Sunday afternoon and remain dangerous through the Monday evening commute. Additional advisories could follow as the storm intensifies.
