Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Snow could begin coating major highways across eastern Pennsylvania by late Sunday morning, with more than 6 inches possible before conditions improve Monday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon for Carbon, Monroe, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Delaware and Philadelphia counties, along with Chester, Montgomery and Bucks counties. Forecasters say snowfall totals exceeding 6 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Road conditions could deteriorate quickly Sunday afternoon along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, I-76, I-476 and I-78. Cities including Philadelphia, Allentown, Reading, Bethlehem and West Chester may see steady accumulation by evening, with the heaviest snow likely Sunday night into early Monday as colder air deepens. Bridges and overpasses are expected to freeze first, increasing the risk for spinouts.
The Monday morning and evening commutes face the highest disruption risk, especially on untreated secondary roads in communities such as Doylestown, Norristown, Kennett Square and Stroudsburg. Residents should avoid non-essential travel, allow extra stopping distance and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.
Snow is expected to taper Monday afternoon, but additional advisories or warnings could be issued if totals trend higher.
