Hinton, West Virginia – Snow could begin covering roads in Summers and western Greenbrier counties before sunrise Sunday, with up to 8 inches possible and wind gusts reaching 40 mph by Monday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Saturday night through Monday evening for Summers and Western Greenbrier counties. Forecasters say total snowfall between 2 and 8 inches is possible, with the higher amounts most likely across elevated terrain near Rainelle, Quinwood and Duo. Gusty winds could blow and drift snow, reducing visibility and creating sudden whiteout conditions on open stretches.

Travel conditions may deteriorate quickly Sunday afternoon and worsen Sunday night as snow intensity increases. Roads in Hinton, along Route 60 near Rainelle, and higher elevation secondary routes could become slick and snow-packed. Blowing snow may create uneven coverage, especially on bridges and exposed roadways.

The Monday morning and evening commutes face the highest risk for disruptions. Drivers should delay non-essential travel, leave extra stopping distance, and avoid sudden braking on hills and curves. Ensure vehicles are winterized and carry emergency supplies, including blankets and a charged phone.

Snow and gusty winds are expected to taper Monday evening, but additional advisories or warnings could be issued if snowfall trends higher. Residents should monitor updated statements through the weekend.
