Markham, Illinois – A convicted felon was charged after deputies allegedly found a loaded gun during an arrest in Markham.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the 1300 block of East Lincoln Highway. Crime investigators said they observed Frankie Agnew, 31, with what appeared to be a heavy L-shaped object in his jacket pocket outside a local store.

When investigators attempted to stop him, Agnew allegedly ran from deputies before being taken into custody. During a pat-down, authorities said they recovered a firearm with a loaded extended magazine.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office later charged Agnew with felony unlawful possession of a weapon. Officials stated he did not possess a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card or concealed carry license at the time of the arrest.

Agnew appeared in court and was ordered held at the Cook County Jail following his initial appearance at the Markham Courthouse. A detention hearing was scheduled for Feb. 20.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The arrest occurred along a busy commercial stretch of East Lincoln Highway frequently used by local shoppers and commuters.
