Nashville, Tennessee – Showers moving into Middle Tennessee tonight could dampen roads along I-40 and I-24 before a sharp temperature drop sends readings into the teens and 20s by early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, rain chances increase to 20 to 60 percent late Friday night into Saturday as a system crosses the region. Highs Saturday will still reach the lower 50s to near 60 degrees in parts of Middle Tennessee, but cooler air begins filtering in by Sunday.

While rainfall amounts are not expected to be excessive, wet pavement combined with falling temperatures could create slick spots by late Sunday night. Overnight lows are forecast to drop into the upper 20s Sunday and then into the teens and lower 20s by Monday night. Nashville could see lows near 19 to 23 degrees, with similar readings in Clarksville and Murfreesboro.

Daytime highs early next week will struggle in the 30s Monday before rebounding into the 40s Tuesday and climbing toward the upper 50s by midweek. Another round of rain becomes possible Wednesday into Thursday, with precipitation chances rising back to 30 to 60 percent.

Drivers should stay alert for changing road conditions, especially on elevated stretches of I-65 and I-840 where colder air settles first. Residents are encouraged to protect outdoor pipes, bring pets indoors and monitor updates as winter briefly reasserts itself across Middle Tennessee.
