Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Heavy snow could blanket eastern Pennsylvania starting Sunday morning, with more than 6 inches possible before the Monday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon for Carbon, Monroe, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties, along with Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties. Snowfall totals exceeding 6 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 35 mph causing blowing snow and reduced visibility.
Travel could become very difficult.
Major routes including Interstate 76, Interstate 95, Interstate 78, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike may become snow-covered late Sunday into early Monday. SEPTA rail and bus operations could also face delays if snowfall rates intensify overnight into the Monday morning commute.
Residents should prepare vehicles and adjust travel plans before Sunday morning. PennDOT crews are expected to pretreat highways ahead of the storm’s arrival.
Snow may continue into Monday afternoon before tapering from west to east, with slick road conditions lingering into the evening commute. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon as snowfall projections are refined.
