Portland, Maine – Snow will overspread southern and western Maine and northern New Hampshire by 6 p.m., creating slick roads through the overnight hours and into the Saturday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 7 a.m. EST Saturday for much of southern Maine, including Cumberland, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Lincoln and Oxford counties, as well as northern counties in New Hampshire. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches are expected.
Road conditions will deteriorate quickly after sunset.
Interstate 95 through Portland, Brunswick and Augusta and Route 302 near Bridgton and Fryeburg may become snow-covered this evening. Periods of moderate to heavy snow will reduce visibility and create snow-packed conditions overnight.
Bridges and untreated roads will become slick first.
Communities including Lewiston, Auburn, Farmington, Bath, Conway and Berlin should prepare for reduced traction during the evening commute and before sunrise Saturday.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check newengland511.org before traveling.
Snow tapers toward daybreak Saturday, but slick spots may linger into early morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
