Schenectady, New York – Snow, sleet and freezing rain will continue to create slick and hazardous roads across the Mohawk Valley and northern Catskills through 7 a.m. EST Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until daybreak for northern and southern Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Schenectady, western Albany, western Greene and western Ulster counties. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet is expected, along with a light glaze of ice up to 0.10 inch.

Bridges and untreated roads will ice over first.

Mixed precipitation is impacting Interstate 90 near Amsterdam and Schenectady, Route 28 near Herkimer and Old Forge, and Route 30 through the Catskills. Even a thin glaze of ice can sharply reduce traction during the evening commute.

Slippery conditions will worsen after sunset.

Communities including Cobleskill, Middleburgh, Johnstown, Hunter and Ellenville may see patchy icing on sidewalks and driveways as temperatures hover near freezing.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and check 511NY for updated road conditions before traveling.

Precipitation tapers toward sunrise Saturday, but icy spots may linger into early morning. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. EST Saturday.
