Buffalo, New York – Wind gusts up to 50 mph will sweep across western New York this afternoon and evening, creating hazardous travel and the risk of scattered power outages through 11 p.m. EST.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Wind Advisory is in effect for Chautauqua County until 11 p.m., with southeast winds gusting to 45 mph late morning before shifting southwest and increasing to 50 mph later today. A separate advisory covers Niagara, Orleans, Erie, Genesee and Wyoming counties from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Strong crosswinds will impact the evening commute.
Drivers along Interstate 90 from Jamestown through Buffalo to Niagara Falls may encounter difficult handling, especially on elevated roadways and open stretches near Lake Erie. High-profile vehicles will be most vulnerable to sudden gusts.
Tree limbs could be blown down, and isolated power outages are possible across the Niagara Frontier and Southern Tier.
Loose outdoor items may become airborne.
