Joliet, Illinois – Strong west winds gusting to 45 mph will continue across south suburban Chicago and central Illinois counties through 4 p.m. CST, creating hazardous travel and isolated power outage risks.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. CST for La Salle, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois, Ford, Southern Cook and Will counties. Sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph will combine with peak gusts near 45 mph.

Loose outdoor objects may be blown around.

High-profile vehicles traveling along Interstate 55 near Joliet, Interstate 80 near Morris and Interstate 57 near Kankakee could experience difficult crosswinds, especially on open stretches and overpasses. Blowing debris may briefly reduce visibility in rural areas near Pontiac and Paxton.

Tree limbs could snap under stronger gusts, leading to isolated power outages across portions of Will and La Salle counties.

Drivers should keep both hands on the wheel and use extra caution, particularly on north-south roadways and elevated highways.

Winds gradually diminish late this afternoon toward early evening. The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. CST today.
