Heber-Overgaard, Ariz. – Snow and 45 mph wind gusts are creating slick roads and pockets of blowing snow along the Eastern Mogollon Rim through 8 a.m. MST, disrupting the Friday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Eastern Mogollon Rim, including Happy Jack, Forest Lakes and Heber-Overgaard. Additional snowfall from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. will range from a trace to 1 inch, with gusts strong enough to reduce visibility and blow snow across roadways.

Bridges and overpasses will ice first.

Drivers along State Route 260 between Heber and Forest Lakes and on Rim Road near Happy Jack are likely to encounter slick stretches and brief visibility drops below a quarter mile in blowing snow. Gusty winds could also snap small tree branches near roadways.

Even light snowfall can quickly cover untreated pavement.

What residents should do now: Slow down, increase following distance and check az511.gov for real-time road conditions before traveling.

Snow should taper shortly after sunrise, with improving visibility by midmorning as winds gradually ease. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. MST this morning.
