Medford, Oregon – Heavy mountain snow could make travel very difficult to impossible above 4,500 feet in Siskiyou County beginning Saturday evening and lasting through late Sunday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Western, South Central, North Central and Southeast Siskiyou County. Snow totals between 6 and 17 inches are possible at higher elevations, including Snowmans Summit and Dead Horse Summit on Highway 89 and along the Mt. Shasta Ski Park Highway near 5,500 feet. South winds could gust up to 55 mph over exposed ridges.
Blowing snow may sharply reduce visibility.
Drivers on Highway 89 and mountain routes near Tennant and Bray should prepare for chain controls, drifting snow and possible temporary closures, especially overnight Saturday into Sunday. Strong winds may also down tree limbs across higher terrain.
What residents should do now: Monitor updated forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel over mountain passes during the height of the storm.
Snow and gusty winds may continue into late Sunday night before tapering early Monday. The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.
