Hanford, CA – Frost sparkles across fields in the San Joaquin Valley this morning, and the air feels sharp in Hanford. Temperatures dropped below freezing across much of the region, triggering a Freeze Warning until 9 a.m. Saturday.

As of mid-morning, Hanford Municipal Airport reports 33°F under clear skies. Calm winds and dry air allowed temperatures to fall into the upper 20s in parts of the valley.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected through 9 a.m. Saturday. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and harm unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Protect tender plants now. Cover exposed pipes before sunset.

Highs reach near 51 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Conditions remain calm, but temperatures drop back to around 32 degrees tonight with mostly clear skies. That sets the stage for another cold start early Saturday.

By Saturday afternoon, sunshine returns with highs near 59 degrees. Sunday warms further, climbing to 63 degrees with mostly sunny skies. The warming trend strengthens into early next week, with highs reaching the mid-60s Monday and upper 60s by midweek.

Drivers along Highway 198 and Highway 43 should watch for isolated slick spots early, especially on rural roads where irrigation runoff may refreeze during cold mornings.

Temperatures remain below seasonal averages now, but longer-range trends signal above-normal readings developing in the 6–10 day window. Early signs of spring warmth are building across central California.
