Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Snow could begin before sunrise Sunday and bring up to 6 inches to parts of eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey by the Monday morning commute, threatening travel on I-95, I-76, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a developing low-pressure system Sunday into Monday carries a 60 to 80 percent probability of at least 2 inches of snow across much of the region, with a 30 to 45 percent chance of 6 inches or more from Philadelphia north through Allentown and into northern New Jersey. Confidence continues to increase in plowable snowfall, though the exact track will determine final totals.

Road conditions may deteriorate rapidly overnight Sunday.

If the storm tracks closer to the coast, stronger onshore winds could also produce minor to moderate coastal flooding along the Atlantic shoreline, including Atlantic City and Cape May, while mixing may reduce snowfall totals near the beaches. A farther offshore track would favor mostly snow inland with lower wind impacts.

Travel on I-476, I-295, and the New Jersey Turnpike may slow significantly before daybreak Monday if heavier snow bands develop. SEPTA and NJ Transit could experience delays during the morning commute.

Residents should monitor updated statements and prepare for possible school delays and travel impacts late Sunday night.

Rain exits Friday afternoon with highs in the 40s to low 50s, allowing road crews time to prepare before colder air settles in Sunday. Winter storm headlines may be issued this weekend as confidence increases, with impacts potentially lasting through midday Monday.
