Houston, Texas – A weak cold front hovering near the Houston metro will create a temperature spread of up to 18 degrees across Southeast Texas this afternoon, impacting travel comfort and outdoor plans along I-45 and I-69 through late Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, the exact position of the front remains uncertain this morning. If it stalls north of the metro, areas like Conroe and College Station could warm into the lower 80s. If it pushes farther south into northern Harris County, highs may stay in the mid to upper 60s north of Houston.

The difference could be felt within a few miles.

Projected high ranges show College Station between 66 and 81 degrees, Huntsville 67 to 80, Conroe 70 to 84, Houston 75 to 84, and Galveston holding steadier between 69 and 74 degrees. The sharp gradient will set up near and north of I-10, with more consistent warmth closer to the coast.

Drivers along I-45 from downtown Houston to The Woodlands may notice changing wind direction and temperature over short distances. While no hazardous weather is expected, the uncertainty could affect outdoor events and school activities this afternoon.

What residents should do now: Dress in layers and monitor updated temperature readings if you have outdoor plans north of Houston.

Temperatures even out tonight as the front weakens, with dry conditions continuing into Saturday. No advisories are in effect, but updated statements may be issued if the front shifts farther south than expected.
