La Crosse, Wisconsin – Moderate to heavy snow continues early Friday morning, with 6 to 8 inches falling in a southwest-to-northeast band that is covering I-90 and US-14 and creating hazardous travel through mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the heaviest snow will gradually end from west to east through late morning. The highest totals are expected in a narrow corridor from northeast Iowa into central Wisconsin, with locally higher amounts possible. A sharp cutoff in snowfall is occurring on the northwest side of the band.

Road conditions are rapidly deteriorating under heavier bursts.

Drivers along I-90 from La Crosse to Tomah and on I-94 near Eau Claire may encounter snow-covered lanes and visibility below one-half mile at times. In Rochester, Minnesota, US-52 and I-90 remain slick as snow winds down between 8 and 9 a.m. Blowing and drifting snow will increase as winds pick up later this morning, especially in open rural areas.

Snow is expected to end in southeast Minnesota and northeast Iowa first, then taper across central Wisconsin closer to midday. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reports reduced speeds and plow operations ongoing along major corridors.

What residents should do now: Delay non-essential travel, allow extra braking distance, and monitor 511WI and 511MN for real-time road conditions.

Snow will exit central Wisconsin by late morning, but drifting may continue into early afternoon. Winter weather advisories remain in effect through the morning commute as cleanup continues.
