Dubuque, Iowa – Moderate to locally heavy snow will continue northwest of a Dubuque to Marengo line through 6 a.m. Friday, covering US-20 and US-61 with accumulating snow and creating slippery road conditions before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the heaviest snow is falling northwest of that Dubuque-to-Marengo corridor, where several inches of accumulation are possible by daybreak. Southeast of the line, including Davenport and Moline, rain and drizzle will gradually transition to light snow through 6 a.m., leading to wet roads turning slushy toward the morning commute.

Road conditions are deteriorating quickly northwest of Dubuque.

Drivers on US-151 near Dubuque and along I-380 between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo may encounter reduced visibility and snow-covered lanes. Farther southeast along I-80 and I-74 in the Quad Cities, conditions will vary block by block as temperatures hover near freezing and precipitation changes from drizzle to snow.

Low visibility in heavier bands could drop below one mile at times, especially in open rural areas. Illinois Department of Transportation and Iowa DOT crews are monitoring primary highways, but untreated secondary roads may become slick first.

What residents should do now: Allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and check 511ia.org or GettingAroundIllinois.com for live road updates before heading out.

Snow intensity should taper after 6 a.m., but slick spots may linger into mid-morning Friday where accumulation is greatest. Winter weather advisories remain in effect through early Friday morning for portions of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois.
