Iowa and Illinois drivers are navigating wind-whipped snow late this morning across the Quad Cities, where visibility drops in bursts and plows continue clearing major routes. At Moline Quad-City Airport, temperatures hover near 29 degrees with gusty west winds and misty, wind-driven snow.
Road conditions remain slick and uneven.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until noon. According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, west to northwest winds of 25 to 30 mph are gusting up to 45 mph across Rock Island, Scott, Clinton, and surrounding counties.
Earlier heavy snow bands laid down several inches north of Interstate 80, with 4 to 8 inches reported from Cedar Rapids toward Dubuque. Blowing snow continues to reduce visibility to around one mile or less at times.
Drivers crossing the I-74 Bridge and traveling I-80 or I-280 should expect drifting in open areas. High-profile vehicles will feel the strongest crosswinds.
Use caution on untreated side streets.
Snow tapers through midday, and skies gradually brighten. Highs reach near 33 degrees, but breezy conditions persist. As temperatures fall into the lower 20s tonight, any slush could refreeze, increasing flash freeze concerns into early Saturday.
Saturday turns partly sunny with a high near 33. Saturday night drops to 17 under mostly cloudy skies. Sunday stays partly sunny and colder, near 27, before clearing Sunday night near 14.
Monday brings sunshine and a high near 31. A stronger warmup develops Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs climbing into the upper 40s. The 6–10 day outlook favors above-normal temperatures and growing signs of spring warmth across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois.
