Michigan tree branches are swaying hard across Grand Rapids late this morning as strong southwest winds build across West Michigan. Fog and mist lingered early, and scattered showers are now moving through as temperatures hover near 43 degrees at Gerald R. Ford International Airport.
Wind is the main story through evening.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will gust up to 45 mph, with the strongest gusts during the afternoon.
Drivers on US-131, I-196, and I-96 should expect sudden crosswinds, especially on bridges and open stretches. Gusts could topple unsecured objects and bring down small limbs. A few isolated power outages are possible.
Rain mixes with snow at times late today as colder air filters in. Little to no accumulation is expected, but brief slick spots could develop toward evening as temperatures fall into the low 30s.
Plan extra time for the evening drive.
Saturday brings mostly cloudy skies with a high near 36 and a chance of snow showers after 1 p.m. Snow showers become likely Saturday night into Sunday, with highs Sunday near 34. New accumulation stays under one inch, but untreated roads could turn slippery.
This is classic February flash-freeze territory. Wet pavement can quickly refreeze after sunset.
Monday turns partly sunny with a high near 31 before temperatures gradually rebound. By midweek, highs climb toward the upper 30s and near 40. Longer-range signals into the 6–10 day period suggest moderating temperatures and early hints of spring warmth.
