Kentucky flags are snapping hard across the Louisville skyline late this morning as strong west winds sweep through the Ohio River Valley. The air feels mild near 62 degrees, but gusts are already pushing vehicles across exposed bridges and open interstates.

Loose objects are tumbling in some neighborhoods.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, widespread west winds will gust between 30 and 40 mph through the afternoon. The strongest gusts are expected late morning into mid-afternoon across Jefferson County and southern Indiana counties including Clark and Floyd.

Drivers on I-64, I-65, and I-71 should expect sudden crosswinds, especially on elevated ramps and the Kennedy Bridge. High-profile vehicles may struggle to maintain lanes. A few isolated gusts over 40 mph are possible.

Sunshine dominates today with a high near 51 degrees as cooler air filters in. Winds gradually ease toward evening, allowing temperatures to drop to the mid-30s tonight. While roads remain dry, this is the time of year when flash freezing can occur if moisture develops and temperatures fall quickly.

Saturday turns mostly sunny with a high near 48. By Sunday, clouds increase and highs cool to the mid-30s. Sunday night dips near 24 degrees, reinforcing the late-February chill.

Early next week remains cool, with highs near 36 Monday and rebounding into the low 40s Tuesday. By midweek, shower chances return Wednesday with highs climbing into the 50s. Longer-range signals into the 6–10 day window show above-normal temperatures and early hints of spring warmth.

Five Day Outlook for Louisville:
Saturday: Mostly sunny, high 48.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy, high 36.
Monday: Mostly cloudy, high 36.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 42.
Wednesday: 30% chance of showers, high 53.
