New York’s Capital Region is waking up to wet snowflakes and a gritty sleet mix tapping against windshields in Albany. Temperatures hover near 34 degrees, right on the edge of freezing, and untreated roads are turning slushy fast.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, snow and sleet will continue through early afternoon before mixing with or changing to rain later today. The chance of precipitation stands at 100 percent, with daytime snow and sleet accumulations around one inch possible. Even minor icing could create slick spots on bridges and overpasses.

Expect reduced traction on I-87, I-90, and I-787.

Highs reach near 36 degrees, limiting widespread accumulation on main roads. Still, bursts of heavier precipitation may briefly coat secondary streets. Allow extra stopping distance and use caution on ramps.

Precipitation tapers tonight, with lows dipping near 29 degrees. Any standing water could refreeze toward daybreak. That raises flash-freeze concerns on untreated pavement.

Saturday turns mostly cloudy with a high near 39 and only a slight chance of a rain–snow shower. Saturday night and Sunday bring additional chances of light snow, though significant accumulation is not expected. Highs Sunday remain in the mid-30s.

Monday stays mostly cloudy and chilly near 34 degrees before a colder night drops readings into the teens. Tuesday brings partial sunshine and highs near 30.

Looking ahead, midweek temperatures trend milder, climbing toward 40 degrees and beyond. Longer-range signals favor above-normal temperatures late next week, hinting at early spring warmth returning to upstate New York.
