According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. today until 10 a.m. Saturday. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches are expected across northern Vermont and northern New York. Snow may fall at rates near 1 inch per hour by late afternoon and evening.
Travel could become very difficult.
Light rain and snow transition to all snow by early afternoon as temperatures peak near 36 degrees. Winds remain light, but snowfall intensity increases toward the evening commute. I-89, Route 7, and secondary roads around Chittenden County may become snow-covered quickly.
Plan extra time if traveling after 3 p.m.
Snow continues tonight with lows near 22 degrees. An additional 3 to 5 inches may accumulate before tapering Saturday morning. Crews will be clearing roads, but visibility may drop during heavier bursts.
Saturday brings scattered snow showers and a high near 28. Sunday turns partly sunny with a high near 34, offering a brief break. However, melting during the day followed by nighttime lows in the teens could trigger flash freezing on untreated surfaces.
Early next week stays cold, with highs in the low 30s Monday and mid-20s Tuesday. Another chance of snow arrives by midweek. Longer-range trends favor moderating temperatures late next week, hinting at early spring warmth returning to the North Country.
