Brian Head, Utah – Mountain highways across central and southern Utah are turning snow-packed tonight, with up to 15 inches of accumulation expected in higher terrain before conditions improve Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for the Central Mountains, including Fish Lake, Joes Valley and Cove Fort, where 6 to 12 inches of snow are forecast. Farther south, warnings continue until 9 a.m. Friday for the Southern Mountains and Zion National Park region. Higher elevations near Brian Head, the Pine Valleys and Tushars could see up to 15 inches. Lower elevations near Kanab and Springdale may receive 2 to 6 inches, with lighter totals near Virgin and Rockville.
Snow-covered pavement is expected along U.S. 89 through south-central Utah and State Route 9 east of Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. Blowing snow in exposed mountain passes could reduce visibility overnight into early Friday.
Drivers should check UDOT traffic updates before departing and carry emergency supplies if travel is necessary. Traction laws or temporary restrictions are possible in higher elevations.
Snow will taper in southern Utah by midmorning Friday, while central mountain impacts may linger into the afternoon. Additional advisories could follow if bands persist.
