White River Junction, Vermont – Drivers across central and southern Vermont and the Adirondacks could see roads turn snow-covered within hours as heavy, wet snow develops after 10 a.m. Friday and intensifies into the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Friday until 10 a.m. Saturday for eastern Addison, Rutland, Windsor and Orange counties in Vermont, along with Essex and Clinton counties in New York. Snow totals will range from 6 to 11 inches in higher elevations, including Killington and Ripton, with 5 to 9 inches expected across the northern Champlain Valley and St. Lawrence region. Snowfall rates are likely to exceed 1 inch per hour Friday evening.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate along Interstate 89 near Bethel and Randolph, Interstate 91 through Springfield and White River Junction, and Interstate 87 near Lake Placid and Plattsburgh. The snow will start wet and heavy, increasing the risk of isolated to scattered power outages where totals exceed 10 inches.
